What is a peptide?
A Peptide is any group of organic compounds comprising two or more amino acids which react by forming a link or peptide bond. Amino acids, the building blocks of protein, are reduced to protein fragments or peptides and communicate or interact with target molecules in your body to prompt or start an activity your body has slowed or stop performing.
In the past, the molecular size of amino acids could not easily pass through your skin rendering the product ineffective; altering the amino acid to a peptide fragment solved the issue. Specific active peptides target and regulate cell function, maximize collagen production by stimulating the growth of collagen cells resulting in the reduction of fine lines, increasing skin firmness and tone. Previously, researchers formulated skin care products
to replace low levels or deficient components of the skin, now peptides can intervene during the aging process signalling the skin to repair itself.
Proteomics, the study of proteins emerged from the human genome research unlocking the encoded genetic information of amino acids and the body. The sequence of these amino acids in the protein peptide determines the shape, properties and biological role of the peptide, some examples are stimulating hormonal activity or body repair.
Peptides can be synthetically produced, derived from plant and animal sources or made by the body. Current medical data is starting to connect peptide deficiency to eczema and the red itchy skin of dermatitis. Penta-peptide is five amino acids joined by a bond, “penta” is the Greek word for five. Poly-peptide is protein or part of a protein forming a chain of amino acids joined by a peptide bond, “poly” is the Greek word for many
What do I need to mix / reconstitute my peptides?
Peptides all need to be reconstituted / mixed with either Bacteriostatic Water.
If you are keeping your Bacteriostatic Water in the fridge then allow to acclimatise nearer to room temperature before reconstituting with your peptide for better mixing.
These specialised waters keep the peptide from degrading, keeping the peptide fresh and bacteria free for longer periods.
I have a specific question about peptides who should I contact?
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of our customer service representatives by e-mail at:
My peptide looks cloudy?
Peptides can have widely varying solubility properties, depending largely on their primary sequence. While many peptides dissolve easily in bacteriostatic water (Containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) of benzyl alcohol), some, especially those containing multiple hydrophobic amino acid residues, may not readily dissolve.
As a general procedure, we recommend first attempting to reconstitute peptides in bacteriostatic water.
What is the AMU unit?
AMU stands for Atomic Mass Unit. It is a common unit measure for peptide.
What are the impurities in my peptide?
The impurities are mostly incorrectly synthesized peptide fragments/deletions, incompletely de-protected peptides and residual water.
